    Zine: All about the Backs

    broken image

For the cover I chose this sketch I did in Bologna, Italy

I enlarged the scale of the couple's backs in the sketch to emphasise the zine's theme of backs.

At the same time, I used terrazzo floors, which can be found in both Bologna, Italy and Guangdong, China. I think terrazzo could be an appropriate intermediary medium to bridge the visual and cultural differences in this zine.

    broken image

I didn't mean to draw backs at first, I accidentally drew a lot of backs because I was afraid to look at strangers, I was organising my sketchbook when I discovered the timidity in my drawings and made it into this zine.

The emerald green card below is a design behind these two men's sketches, to explain why I put them together.

(Firsty, the visual similarity of willow tress and fireworks. Secondly, the things our eyes see during the day and at night are different. During the day, I can see the colors on the rower's clothes, but at night, I can't see colors, and I can only use lines to draw what i observe)

  • Spring is for...

This is my zine about spring, which is made up of my sketches.

But what makes it special is white card on the right - I used seed paper! Seed paper contains seeds inside, so if you're willing, you can try to plant it!

    broken image

When i was sorting them i realize i can divided them into four parts:

    animals plants riverside and people,

then I made up this little poem:

    Spring is for Creatures

    Spring is for greens

    Spring is for river

    Spring is for people

    and spring is for me...

    And you!

The text is written in my left hand, it has the feel of a little bug crawling through the marks

    broken image

I like to try different materials like watercolor and oil pastels

and i use some soft pastels here to reach this hazy atmosphere.

    which is perfect for spring

    broken image

These paintings were all done in Cambridge on the River Cam

I really like putting my hand in the chilly river in the early

spring. I think it's one of the ways I could enjoy it better

These are daffodils, which are very common in the UK and are often seen as a symbol of spring.

and this is part of river Cam, and it has many willow trees along the bank

    broken image

The text of this part is 'Spring is for people’. So I ‘ve put so many skectes that people gathering together to have a picnic or go to the music festival.

    broken image

    (The changing)

As you turn the pages, you'll also see the green of the background fade from the dark green of late winter to the bright green of spring - until the first little flowers bloom in spring and the image turns a bright, soft yellow, just like the feeling that spring gives to people.

And you!( so if you're willing, you can try to plant the seed paper! and you can follow the instructins here. Then, spring will come from my zine to your place!

So, this little zine not only has beautiful pictures, it also has a simple structure and a nice little surprise in the end.

    hope you like it!

This project for a fine dessert shop consisted of a logo design and a product packaging design.

In the logo design, I used the plants that the manager wanted that they commonly use --- beans and cherries.

    broken image

At the same time, they emphasise the taste of natural ingredients and the rustic feel of handmade, so I chose cyanotype pattern for the packaging design.

    broken image

The materials I used in making the cyanotype pattern were red beans, wheat, peppercorns, and millet.

This is a soft and curing illustration design for an independent photography studio in Barcelona named STONE.

The owner of this studio is a Christian so she hopes that the logo can have some elements related to her religion.

In addition, I made a set of related illustrations to making new merchs.

Barcelona's palm trees, seashells, seagulls, the Star of Bethlehem, the iron street lamps, the Ferris wheel on the Tibidabo hill and the House of Batlleau and even the Barcelona's sun, were all put into my illustration.

We also extended a mug as a merch as well.

The owner of this photography studio and I both like the design of little sun inside the mug.

    Commission: Genki Forest

This illustration was inspired by a dream I had on a midsummer night -- in which I turned into a pig and went to sea. The little water drops splashed on my cool belly feels as cool as drink a bottle of Genki Forest soda on a hot summer day!

This is the illustration I made for a poem called "Treasure Box of Childhood"

🔑The text author's words are so delicate that they made my eyes wet. I remember a sentence says, "It seems that when you holding the rope in your hand, your friends will come."

In order to find some insperation, I opened my childhood treasure box as well. In the box, I found my first flight ticket, the flute I played, the photo of me and a Coca-Cola polar bear, the stickers of Inuyasha, and a paper-made heart that I can't remember who gave me this.

✨I painted the treasure box in a dreamy color because I wanted it to have the feeling of Doraemon's time machine.

Collection of seaside sketches:Go to sea

Seagulls can easily evoke thoughts of the seaside. So, when designing the packaging for this set of seaside-themed postcards, I created a seagull envelope. It’s not only uniquely shaped but also can be used to decorate your wall.

    broken image

For me, sketching is as natural as drinking water. It is casual and spontaneous. Growing up on a peninsula, I naturally created sketches of the coast from spending time playing by the seaside. Yet, capturing a seaside landscape isn't particularly challenging for me, but my focus lies in documenting what moves me emotionally.

    broken image

I love using sketching to capture the temperature, atmosphere, and everything about that day, trying to embed these experiences into my drawings like keeping a diary flow.

    broken image

When I encapsulate these beautiful feelings into my sketchbook, it brings me joy, much like collecting pretty seashells and putting them into my pocket.

Sketching Just Like a Joyful Seashell Hunt for me. I gradually find it less strange to take out my sketchbook in public. I'm grateful for the strict teachers at the Cambridge School of Art who pushed me hard. Initially, I stumbled along, but gradually found my stride. Now, I feel like a gleaming train steadily moving forward, always ready to pull out my sketchbook and draw wherever I go.
